CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles announced a milestone after launching self-service kiosk pilots in grocery stores a year ago.
As of Monday, 25,000 customers have used the NC DMV services that are available in some Harris Teeters in Mecklenburg County.
“I’m very excited about the success of our kiosk pilot,” DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said to WCNC Charlotte. “This pilot is a prime example of the work we have done to shorten lines and wait times by using technology to modernize our customer service and provide more options for customers to get what they need in a timely manner.”
Drivers can use these new machines to renew vehicle registrations and renew driver’s licenses 7 days a week; Monday – Saturday: 6am-11pm and Sunday: 12pm-11pm. In addition to self-service options already available on the NCDMV’s website, these kiosks provide a way for residents to access DMV services without visiting a DMV in-person.
“The benefit of going to a kiosk to get your service is the ability to walk away with your product in your hand, whether that be a temporary paper license or ID card that has your photo on it, or the sticker you can walk out with and place on your license plate right there in shopping center parking lot,” Goodwin said.
Around Charlotte, these NCDMV kiosks are located in Harris Teeter stores at:
- Quail Corners (8538 Park Road, Charlotte)
- Town Center Plaza (8600 University City Boulevard, Charlotte)
- Central Avenue (1704 Central Avenue, Charlotte)
- Riverbend Village (4701 Smith Farm Road, Charlotte)
Outside of Charlotte, kiosks are also available at
- Village District (500 Oberlin Road, Raleigh)
- Cary Village Square (885 Walnut Street, Cary)
- Fuquay Crossing (1371 East Broad Street, Fuquay-Varina)
- The Corners at Brier Creek (4221 Corners Parkway, Raleigh)
- Highland Centre (2800 Raeford Road, Fayetteville).
A tenth kiosk is planned for Fayetteville in the Soldier Support Center.
