ROCKY MOUNT – The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is expanding its self-service kiosk pilot in grocery stores to provide services outside of typical office hours and shorten lines and wait times at offices across the state.

“I am excited to announce the expansion of our kiosk pilot to six more locations,” said DMV Commissioner Wayne Goodwin. “This is another example of the work we are doing to shorten lines and wait times by using technology to modernize our customer service and provide more options for customers to get what they need in a timely manner.”

NCDMV Express self-service kiosks are now available at six new Harris Teeter locations:

  • Quail Corners (8538 Park Road, Charlotte)
  • Town Center Plaza (8600 University City Boulevard, Charlotte)
  • Central Avenue (1704 Central Avenue, Charlotte)
  • Village District (500 Oberlin Road, Raleigh)
  • Cary Village Square (885 Walnut Street, Cary)
  • Fuquay Crossing (1371 East Broad Street, Fuquay-Varina)

These six kiosks join the three original locations announced in March:

  • The Corners at Brier Creek (4221 Corners Parkway, Raleigh)
  • Riverbend Village (4701 Smith Farm Road, Charlotte )
  • Highland Centre ( 2800 Raeford Road, Fayetteville)

“Harris Teeter is always seeking new ways to make shopping at Harris Teeter even more convenient for our customers,” said Danna Robinson, director of corporate affairs at Harris Teeter. “We are thrilled to partner with the DMV to offer more kiosk locations in several Harris Teeter stores to add convenience to our customers’ everyday lives.”

Customers can now complete the following services at the kiosks:

  • Renew a driver license or ID card (unless they renewed online last time)
  • Order a duplicate or change the address on their driver license, permit or state ID card (you must know your driver license/ID number to complete this transaction)
  • Vehicle registration renewals
  • Pay property tax on a new vehicle

The benefit of using a kiosk for these transactions is that customers will walk away with either a temporary driving/identity certificate, which includes a photo, that can be used until the official credential arrives in the mail (typically two-three weeks) or a printed registration card and license plate sticker which can then be applied to the vehicle.

NCDMV plans to add a 10th kiosk at Fort Liberty later this year, and more kiosks will be added as certain transaction thresholds are achieved.

Intellectual Technology, Inc. (ITI) is NCDMV’s private partner for the kiosk pilot. ITI has partnerships with several states and grocery store chains to deploy kiosks for DMV transactions.

The kiosk pilot comes at no cost to the state. ITI is compensated via a $4.95 fee per transaction. Customers will also be charged a 2% credit/debit card processing fee.
