With the implementation of Driver’s License for All and new ways to get services in multiple languages, our Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) division staff will be busier than ever. That’s why we’re looking at ways to save you time.

A new program will make getting your tabs as easy as hitting an ATM for some cash. Our DVS Now kiosks are being installed at select locations throughout the state. The kiosks allow you to skip the line and renew your registration with a touch of a few buttons at a deputy registrar office or even the grocery store.

“At DVS, our focus is providing convenient, efficient service,” DVS Director Pong Xiong said. “We know Minnesotans are busy, so we’re doing everything we can to remove barriers and meet our customers where they are.”

Kiosks offer a fast and convenient alternative for completing vehicle registration renewals. DVS Now kiosks use scanning and touchscreen technology to securely update registration information. Step-by-step instructions, along with optional voice assistance, are provided on-screen in English or Spanish. After you put in the information, your tabs print instantly at the kiosk.

If you don’t have your renewal notice to scan, you can still get your tabs at the kiosk.

What you need:

  • Your address.
  • License plate number.
  • Insurance provider’s name, policy number and expiration date.
  • The county name in which the vehicle is kept.
  • Either the account ID number from your renewal notice, or your house/building number.
  • The last three characters of the vehicle’s Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Along with the total fees due listed on your renewal notice, there is a $4.95 service fee for each vehicle renewed at the kiosk. The kiosks accept credit or debit cards. There is an additional 2.49 percent credit card processing fee if you pay by credit card. There is a similar credit card processing fee if you choose to renew online or in person at a motor vehicle office.

Simply scan the barcode on your renewal notice or type your license plate number and the last four digits of your VIN on the touchscreen. Follow the instructions and pay fees. The machine will print your receipt and your vehicle registration tabs.
