Kiosks make DMV transactions in California quick and painless
At the kiosk you will be able to do everything from renewing your registration, to filing for PNO to receiving your driver or vehicle record.

CALIFORNIA—Have you ever waited to the last minute to renew your car’s registration and needed the new registration sticker, but didn’t have the time to wait in line at the DMV? You don’t have to worry about that anymore! The California Department of Motor Vehicles has hundreds of DMV NOW kiosks that have you covered.
The freestanding self-service kiosk uses touchscreen technology to guide you through various DMV transactions.
What you can do at DMV NOW kiosks
- Complete your registration renewal
- File for planned non-operation (PNO) status
- Pay a vehicle registration suspension reinstatement fee
- Submit an affidavit of non-use (ANU)
- Remove an ANU
- Submit proof of insurance when requested by the Vehicle Insurance Program
- Receive your driver’s record
- Receive your vehicle record
- Receive a replacement registration card or sticker
What you can not do at DMV NOW kiosks
- Renew driver’s licenses and identification cards
- Renew vessel registration as they are issued different stickers not available through DMV NOW
- Accept proof of insurance for registration renewal
- Process a change of address at the kiosks.
The kiosks can be used for almost all types of vehicles including autos, pickups, motorcycles, coach and park model trailers as well as commercial vehicles that do not pay Commercial Vehicle Registration.
Perhaps the most convenient aspect of the kiosks is the payment methods it accepts. Days of bringing your checkbook are over! DMV NOW kiosks accept both credit and debit card payments. However, all credit/debit transactions are assessed a 2.1% service fee.
You will need to bring certain items for certain transactions.
Registration renewal: Bring the 8 ½” x 11″ renewal notice DMV sends you each year or your current registration card. If using a renewal notice, make sure there is a Renewal Identification Number (RIN) on the top left.
Driver’s Record: Bring your driver’s license or identification card.
Vehicle Record: Bring your driver’s license or identification card, vehicle license plate number, and last 5 digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN).
Replacement Registration Card or Sticker: Bring your license plate number and last 5 digits of the vehicle identification number (VIN).
Replacement Driver’s License: Provide your full name, address on DMV records, birth date and driver’s license number.
The kiosks are also available in many different languages. You can conduct vehicle transactions in English, Spanish, Armenian, Chinese, Hindi, Punjabi, or Vietnamese. You can conduct driver’s license transactions in English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Tagalog, Thai, or Vietnamese. These languages align with the Secretary of State to allow voter registration.
