LAKEWOOD, Ohio — As much as all of us enjoy an annual trip to an Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles location, the state is slowly introducing speedy kiosks at different retail outlets around the Buckeye State

The latest is at the Discount Drug Mart at 15412 Detroit Ave. in Lakewood.

“The state and Drug Mart have kind of come together on this,” Discount Drug Mart Government & Public Affairs Director Steve Ferris said.

“We thought it would be a perfect way for us to bring some more value and service to our customers by having one of these kiosks in our store.”

The Ohio BMV Express is a self-service kiosk offering drivers a fast and easy way to quickly renew vehicle registration. The average transaction takes less than two minutes.

The process involves scanning the vehicle renewal notice barcode or the barcode on a current vehicle registration, selecting a payment option with credit or debit card, and printing a registration card and license plate sticker.

Up to 90 days prior to expiration, vehicle registration can be renewed for one or two years.

Discount Drug Mart’s first Ohio BMV Express kiosk went in last year at its Fulton Road store in Cleveland.

“The experience has been positive,” Ferris said.

“We like to say we like to save you the runaround at Drug Mart, and this is a good example where you can park and get in and out quickly.”

A special introductory event is scheduled for noon Jan. 23 at the Lakewood store, where Ohio BMV Registrar Charlie Norman will be present.

“The BMV is dedicated to improving the overall customer experience by providing our customers with access to innovative solutions that better meet their diverse needs,” Norman said in a press release.

“The BMV Express Kiosks are another important step we’re taking to give Ohioans more convenient options to choose from when they are deciding how to interact with state government.”
